Memorial – Leonard Pool, Founder of SIDUS Solutions

We mourn the loss of Leonard Pool, former director of SIDUS Solutions, a visionary leader whose contributions shaped the subsea maritime technology industry. Leonard’s life was defined by passion — for his family, for surfing, and for the ocean he loved. His dedication to deep-sea exploration and the innovative products he engineered made countless discoveries possible.

Leonard’s journey began with specialized training in the US Navy for submarine acoustics and sonar applications. This expertise became the foundation for his pioneering work in subsea cameras, pan and tilt systems, lasers, and subsea lighting. Under his guidance, SIDUS Solutions grew into a dynamic, global leader, delivering advanced solutions for oil and gas, security, and subsea operations, including deepwater drilling, acoustic positioning, dynamic positioning, and navigation.

As a proud U.S. veteran, Leonard committed to building SIDUS Solutions as a service-disabled veteran-owned small business, specializing in security and video surveillance systems for subsea environments. His leadership transformed the company into a trusted name in hazardous area monitoring worldwide.

Beyond his business achievements, Leonard gave generously to the maritime community. He served as Chair of the San Diego Marine Technology Society Board of Directors in 2000, 2006, and 2007, fostering collaboration in ocean and marine engineering, science, and policy. He was also past president of the AUVSI Chapter, and an active member of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) San Diego Chapter and The Maritime Alliance (TMA).

Leonard’s entrepreneurial spirit began with Power & Wind before founding SIDUS Solutions in 2000. His influence extended far beyond his company. He spoke at global maritime events, supported local charities, and championed programs like the MTS Internship initiative.

Leonard Pool’s legacy is one of vision, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the maritime world. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. Our thoughts are with those who loved him as we honor a life that truly made a difference.

In early 2025, Leonard sold a majority interest in SIDUS to Industrial Device Investments LLC (IDI). IDI mourns the loss of Leonard and remains committed to honoring his legacy and vision and continuing to build a company of which he would be proud.
